Ia menjelaskan, ombak tinggi dan tubuh kapal yang rapuh membuat air laut membanjiri bagian dalam kapal. Akhirnya, sang veteran pun mengalah pada alam.

Alcos tak lupa memberikan penghormatan terakhir pada BRP Miguel Malvar. “Kapal ini adalah salah satu yang paling berjasa dalam sejarah Angkatan Laut Filipina,” tegasnya. Ia juga menegaskan bahwa Filipina kini sedang memodernisasi armadanya dengan kapal-kapal baru yang lebih tangguh.

Kapal ini awalnya bernama USS Brattleboro dan beraksi di bawah bendera AS selama Perang Dunia II. Saat itu, ia berhasil mengejar kapal selam Jepang dan bahkan mengangkut tahanan perang Jerman. Setelah perang usai, nasibnya berlanjut ke Vietnam.
