Kaitan dengan Hadits Nabi tentang Kiamat
Beliau bersabda:
“Kiamat tidak akan terjadi sampai Eufrat mengering sehingga menyingkap gunung emas. Manusia pun saling bunuh untuk memperebutkannya. Dari setiap seratus orang, terbunuhlah sembilan puluh sembilan. Setiap orang dari mereka berkata, ‘Mudah-mudahan akulah yang selamat.’” (HR. Muslim No. 2894).
Kata “انحسار” (inhisar) dalam hadits ini berarti tersingkapnya sesuatu yang sebelumnya tertutup air. Syekh Sulaiman Al-Asyqar dalam Al-Qiyamah Ash-Shughra menjelaskan, bisa jadi perubahan aliran sungai atau surutnya air menyebabkan emas yang terpendam terlihat. Namun, hanya Allah yang tahu kebenaran sepenuhnya.
Tafsir Ulama: Emas atau Simbol Kekayaan Lain?
Tidak semua ulama sepakat bahwa “gunung emas” dalam hadits tersebut harus dimaknai secara harfiah. Abu ‘Ubaidah, dalam komentarnya terhadap kitab An-Nihayah fi al-Fitan wa al-Malahim karya Ibnu Katsir, berpendapat bahwa “emas” bisa jadi metafora untuk kekayaan lain, seperti minyak bumi, yang sering menjadi sumber konflik.
Di sisi lain, sebagian ulama menghubungkan fenomena ini dengan turunnya Nabi Isa ‘alaihissalam di akhir zaman.
