WASHINGTON DC, desapenari.id – Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan Amerika Serikat (FDA) memperingatkan masyarakat untuk menghindari konsumsi udang beku tertentu yang dijual di jaringan ritel Walmart.
Peringatan ini disampaikan setelah muncul kekhawatiran produk tersebut diduga terpapar bahan radioaktif Cesium-137 (Cs-137).
Dalam pernyataan resminya, Selasa (19/8/2025), FDA menyebut kontaminasi Cs-137 ditemukan pada kontainer pengiriman serta produk udang beku yang diproses oleh perusahaan asal Indonesia, PT Bahari Makmur Sejati Indonesia atau BMS Food.

Beberapa produk udang beku mentah dari perusahaan tersebut diketahui dipasarkan di Walmart pada 13 negara bagian Amerika Serikat (AS).
Yakni Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, dan Virginia Barat.
“Jika Anda baru saja membeli udang beku mentah dari Walmart yang sesuai dengan deskripsi ini, buanglah. Jangan makan atau sajikan produk ini,” kata FDA, dikutip dari NBC News pada Rabu (20/8/2025).
Produk yang masuk dalam kategori peringatan ini termasuk udang beku dengan merek bernilai tinggi milik Walmart.
Hingga saat ini, PT Bahari Makmur Sejati maupun Walmart belum memberikan tanggapan atas permintaan komentar dari media.

FDA menjelaskan Cs-137 merupakan bentuk radioaktif dari Cesium, logam berwarna putih keperakan yang dapat berubah menjadi cair pada suhu mendekati suhu ruang. Unsur ini biasanya digunakan dalam peralatan medis dan pengukur radiasi.
“Paparan berulang terhadap Cs-137 dosis rendah dapat meningkatkan risiko kanker, akibat kerusakan DNA di dalam sel-sel hidup tubuh,” tulis FDA dalam siaran pers.
Temuan awal kontaminasi Cs-137 dilaporkan oleh Bea Cukai dan Perlindungan Perbatasan AS setelah mendeteksi zat tersebut pada kontainer pengiriman di beberapa pelabuhan, termasuk Los Angeles, Houston, Miami, dan Savannah, Georgia.
FDA menegaskan, seluruh kontainer dan produk yang dinyatakan positif mengandung Cs-137 telah ditolak masuk ke wilayah Amerika Serikat.
Meski demikian, FDA menyatakan kadar Cs-137 yang terdeteksi masih berada di bawah ambang batas intervensi turunan, yakni 1.200 Bq/kg.
Namun, lembaga itu menilai paparan tambahan dari udang beku yang sudah terkontaminasi tetap dapat menimbulkan potensi risiko kesehatan, terutama bila dikombinasikan dengan radiasi dari lingkungan atau prosedur medis.
Pejabat kesehatan pun mengimbau masyarakat yang merasa mungkin terpapar Cs-137 dalam jumlah tinggi untuk segera berkonsultasi dengan penyedia layanan kesehatan.
