Wingsuit: Bukan Jatuh Bebas, Tapi Terbang Horizontal
Berbeda dengan penerjunan biasa yang mengandalkan gerakan vertikal, wingsuit memungkinkan penerjun melayang secara horizontal. Dengan kecepatan 120-165 km/jam, mereka bisa mengarahkan penerjunan menggunakan GPS dan teknik aerodinamis.
“Kalau freefall biasa, kita lebih banyak jatuh ke bawah. Tapi dengan wingsuit, gerakan maju ke depan lebih dominan,” jelas Lettu (Pas) Yudi Agung Prasetyo, Komandan Tim Wingsuit Kopasgat. “Perbandingannya, seribu meter melayang, tiga ribu meter maju ke depan!”

Dari Latihan 2018 Hingga Resmi Terbentuk Tahun 2024
Regu Wingsuit Kopasgat resmi berdiri tahun 2024, tapi proses pelatihannya sudah dimulai sejak 2018. Saat ini, ada 10 personel terpilih dari berbagai satuan seperti Mako Kopasgat, Wingdik 800, Satbravo, dan Matra 1.
Syarat masuk tim ini sangat ketat. “Minimal harus instruktur freefall dengan jam terbang di atas 1.500 jam,” tegas Yudi.

Wingsuit yang digunakan adalah model Intermediate Barracuda 4 buatan Intrudair (Bulgaria). Desain aerodinamisnya mirip sayap pesawat, meningkatkan kecepatan dan kelincahan.
“Setiap personel punya wingsuit khusus sesuai ukuran tubuh,” kata Yudi.
Meski belum terjun dalam misi operasional sungguhan, tim Wingsuit Kopasgat sudah membuktikan kemampuannya secara gemilang. Sebagai buktinya, dalam ajang Firepower Demo di Lumajang, mereka sukses menempuh jarak terbang sejauh 5 kilometer sebelum mendarat dengan presisi memukau.
